We collect information you provide directly, information generated through your use of the App, and limited technical information from your device.

Information You Provide

Information Generated Automatically

• Device type, operating system version, and unique device identifiers
• App version and crash reports
• General usage patterns (screens visited, features used)
• IP address and approximate location (country/region level only)

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

• Provide and improve the App — match cocktails to your inventory, power group features, and improve recommendations
• Personalize your experience — remember your preferences, ratings, and bar inventory across sessions
• Enable social features — share inventory with groups, participate in Flights, send Discoveries to friends
• Communicate with you — send notifications about group activity, Flight updates, and Discovery reveals
• Ensure safety and security — detect fraud, investigate abuse, and enforce our Terms of Use
• Analyze and improve performance — understand how the App is used and fix bugs
• Comply with legal obligations — respond to lawful requests and applicable law

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising purposes.

How We Share Your Information

With Other Users

OurBar is a social app. Certain information is visible to other users by design:

• Your display name and avatar are visible to users in your groups and friends list
• Your bar inventory is visible to group members when you share it for a session
• Your Discoveries tasting notes and scores are revealed to specific recipients you choose, only after they log their own score for the same spirit
• Your Flight scores and rankings are visible to group members after a bracket round concludes

You control what you share. Private inventory items and personal notes are never shared without your explicit action.

With Service Providers

We share information with trusted third-party service providers who help us operate the App:

The AI providers listed above are accessed through their commercial APIs, whose terms do not permit submitted content to be used for training their models. We do not use their consumer products, which carry different data practices.

All service providers are contractually obligated to use your information only to provide services to us and in accordance with this policy.

Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or governmental authority, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.

AI Features

Two features in OurBar send your information to third-party AI providers. Both are optional: you can use the App fully without either.

Bottle scanning

When you scan a bottle, the photo you take is sent to Anthropic's API so the label can be identified and matched to our catalog. We do not store the photo. It is transmitted for identification, and what we keep is the resulting bottle information added to your inventory, not the image itself.

Cocktail concierge

When you ask the concierge what to pour, your question is sent along with a summary of your bar inventory to Groq, or to OpenAI if Groq is unavailable, so an answer can be generated.

Unlike bottle photos, the text of your concierge questions is stored in your account, together with which cocktail was recommended and how many requests you have made. We keep this to enforce usage limits on free accounts, to understand which questions the feature answers badly, and to improve it. This data is deleted when you delete your account.

What we do not do

• We do not use AI to make automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
• We do not send your identity to AI providers. Requests carry the content needed to answer, not your name or email address.
• We do not use AI-generated content about you for advertising, and we do not sell any of it.

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on secure servers operated by Supabase, Inc. with data centers in the United States. We implement industry-standard security measures including:

• Encrypted data transmission (TLS/HTTPS)
• Encrypted data at rest
• Row-level security policies limiting data access
• Authentication via Supabase Auth with secure session management

No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. Specifically:

• Account data — retained until you delete your account
• Bar inventory and ratings — retained until you delete your account or remove individual items
• Group and social data — retained until you leave a group or delete your account
• Concierge questions — retained until you delete your account
• Usage logs — retained for up to 90 days for debugging and security purposes

When you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

• Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
• Correction — request correction of inaccurate personal information
• Deletion — request deletion of your personal information and account
• Portability — request your data in a portable format
• Opt-out of notifications — disable push notifications at any time through your device settings

You may delete your account at any time from the Profile tab in the App — scroll to the bottom and tap "Delete account."

Push Notifications

OurBar can send push notifications when you opt in. We send notifications for activity in your groups, flights you are participating in, events you are invited to, discoveries from friends you follow, and updates to your bar — such as when your shelf can suddenly make a cocktail you have saved.

You can turn off any category from Settings → Notifications in the App, or disable notifications entirely from your device's system settings. We do not send marketing or promotional push notifications.

Children's Privacy

OurBar is intended for users of legal drinking age in their jurisdiction. The App is not directed to children under the age of 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a minor without parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information.

California Privacy Rights

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

• The right to know what personal information we collect, use, disclose, and sell
• The right to delete personal information we have collected from you
• The right to opt-out of the sale of personal information — we do not sell personal information
• The right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy and, where appropriate, sending a notification through the App.

Your continued use of OurBar after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
